BACK

Launched in 1988 the 222 was so named for its 2 doors, 2 litre engine and its 2 overhead camshafts. Power was increased to 225 bhp giving a top speed of over 140 mph and acceleration figures of 0 to 60 mph in just over six seconds. The standing kilometre could be covered in 26.3 seconds.
Aerodynamics were greatly improved by the more rounded treatment given to the front-end, radiator grille and door mirrors. A rear spoiler emphasized its sporting appeal.
Passenger comfort during long trips was enhanced by the installation of a new improved German sound insulation system.
