THE FIRST MASERATI. In the 1926 Targa Florio this car (No 5), driven by Alfieri Maserati with riding mechanic Guerino Bertocchi, won the 1½-litre class and finished ninth overall. You will observe that for this gruelling race the normal streamlined tail has been sacrificed to allow for the storage of the two spare wheels.
