Maserati is World Champion

Congratulations to Maserati and the Vitaphone Racing Team

San Luis (Ar), 5 December 2010 – Michael Bartels and Andrea Bertolini are now officially 2010 FIA GT1 World Champions. The reigning champions, driving Vitaphone Racing Team's Maserati MC12, have just won the drivers title for the fourth time (and third consecutive time) at the conclusion of the last round in San Luis, Argentina.

The Vitaphone Racing Team also received recognition for remaining at the top of the team classification (for the sixth consecutive time). Celebration for Maserati's performance began right after this morning's Qualifying Race, when the math excluded Maserati's closest contender, Turner Enge's Aston Martin.

The last event in the 2010 season, the Championship Race, went to Makocwiecki/Clairy's no. 9, which, thanks also to points earned by their team-mates, catapulted Aston Martin ahead of Maserati in the SRO Trophy Manufacturers's classification.

The Trident cars in today's Argentinean race reached seventh place with Bartels/Bertolini (thus earning a further 6 points in the process), ninth with Heger/Mueller (2 points) and fourteenth with Bernoldi/Ramos. Pier Guidi/Verdonck's no. 33 was eliminated.

This championship had the Maserati MC12 arrive first to the finish line on three occasions during Championship Races (Paul Ricard and Algarve by Bartels/Bertolini and Interlagos by Bernoldi/Negrao) and twice in Qualifying Races (Brno and Paul Ricard by Bartels/Bertolini).

Maserati's participation in the FIA GT from 2005 to today is crowned with fourteen titles (and 19 victories): two Car Maker Cups (2005 and 2007), five Driver Championships (Bartels-Bertolini in 2006, Thomas Biagi in 2007, and Bartels-Bertolini in 2008, 2009 and 2010); six Team Championships (uninterruptedly since 2005, by the Vitaphone Racing Team); one Citation Cup in 2007 by gentleman driver Ben Aucott, JMB Racing, in addition to three absolute victories in Spa's 24 Hours (2005, 2006 and 2008).

Andrea Bertolini: "We've just accomplished an incredible thing: we've won the fourth international title! They say that the first time is never forgotten, but I have to admit that today, the latest one, is surely wonderful, really exciting. It's not easy to win the first time, and repeating the feat is even harder.

The key to this success is having a reliable car, a fast team-mate like Michael Bartels --who I consider a brother-- and a team that is as motivated as I am. We were fast even when we were loaded with ballast; we attacked at the right time and we were good at avoiding difficult situations. This is what I call determination! Everyone deserves credit for it. I'm only sorry that we couldn't get Maserati a car maker's title. I dedicate this world championship to my wife, my son and to all those who have given me a helping hand."

Michael Bartels: "This championship isn't comparable to past ones: We've won it in the new World Championship, and the contenders were top-notch teams and drivers. It wasn't easy but we did it! Right now I still cannot fathom the importance of this success. In the last two races we carefully controlled our advantage, trying to avoid mistakes. We were able to remain focused during the entire season, trying to accumulate the greatest amount of points possible while taking full advantage of opportunities as they arose. Perhaps we made less mistakes than our adversaries. Andrea and I know each other very well: this is an enormous advantage for us”.

San Luis (AR), 2 December 2010 - The last round of the championship, scheduled for this weekend in the San Luis, Argentina, circuit - which once again appears in the racing calendar after its debut in 2008 - will decide the winners of the 2010 FIA GT1 World Championship.

After Bernoldi/Negrao's splendid victory of in their home country of Brazil with Vitaphone Racing Team's Maserati MC12 no. 2, the Trident carmaker will be present the last round at the top of all three categories (drivers, teams and carmakers), ready to reap a sweeping triple victory.

With Vitaphone Racing Team's Maserati MC12 no. 1, Bartels/Bertolini can hope to make full use of that 28-point advantage over their closest contenders, Turner/Enge with the Aston Martin, in the Drivers Classification standings. The Aston Martin was able to overtake Mutsch's Ford, who did not score any points in the last two rounds.

The weekend in Argentina will offer a chance to get further points from both the Qualifying Race and the Championship Race and the outcome of the World Championship will emerge from the result of these races. Chances are particularly good for Bartels/Bertolini, as the two Maserati drivers participating in the San Luis races have finally lost all 40 kilos of "success ballast" their car had to lug around in the winding Interlagos racetrack.

Vitaphone Racing Team has a 47-point advantage over its closest contenders in the Teams Classification, while Maserati has a 14-point advantage over its contenders in the Car Makers Classification.

Victory is there for the taking: a sweeping victory in Argentina to close the Trident's fantastic season.

Racing timetable (local time):

Qualifying Practices: Saturday 4 December, 5:15 pm- 6:15 pm
Qualifying Race: Sunday 5 December 9:15 am -10:15 am
Championship Race: Sunday 5 December 1:25 pm -2:25 pm

Bernoldi/Negrao's Maserati MC12 Wins at Interlagos

Copyright SRO Media OfficeInterlagos (BR), 28 November 2010 – The Brazilian duo Bernoldi/Negrao, driving Vitaphone Racing Team's Maserati MC12 no. 2 in the next-to-last round of the GT1 World Championship in Interlagos, Brazil, had a splendid Championship Race victory. The two drivers were able to reach the finish line first after starting off from fourth position. They took full advantage of the pit stop mechanics' excellent work and proceeded to overtake Hennerici/Margaritis's Corvette first, then left Turner/Enge's Aston Martin behind them. Their passage in front of the checkered flag was acclaimed by the crowd that filled the racetrack's stands (20 thousand spectators).

Driving Maserati MC12 no. 1, team-mates Bartels/Bertolini concluded in ninth position, in a race that was careful and prudent for them. They earned two more precious points for the fight in the driver's classification, which, one round away from the end, still has the leading with 28 points over their closest contenders: Turner/Enge.

Heger/Mueller's Maserati MC12 n. 33 came in tenth. Mueller was able to run the fastest lap, the twentieth, marking 1:34.168 while at the same time doing coverage work for the two reigning champions. A pair of Brazilian drivers debuting in the FIA GT with Maserati MC12 no. 34, Serra and Longo, came in eighteenth place.

The next race, scheduled for 5 December in the San Luis circuit in Argentina, will decide the winners of the three classifications, at the moment all topped by Maserati (Drivers, Team and Manufacturers).

QUOTES:

Xandinho Negrao: "It was exciting to win once again driving a Maserati and in my home country, in front of all these people, to boot. In the first stint Enrique Bernoldi was very good at remaining among the first racers. Then, thanks to the pit stop, we were able to gain one position. We didn't have enough power to overtake the Aston Martin on the straight stretch so I thought of attacking it at some other point and I succeeded, remaining at the front of the race until the finish line. Congratulations to the entire team and crew."

Enrique Bernoldi: "It was a great race. We knew we had what it takes to win, but we were nevertheless aware of how difficult it could be. We were able to get this excellent result with the help of the crew's perfect performance. We all wanted the victory: the mechanics, the engineers and the drivers. I am doubly pleased because this year I worked very hard and this is my first international success in this racetrack."

A Tribute to the Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale

The new Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale will be the fastest, lightest and most powerful car in the Maserati model line-up when it goes on sale in the first quarter of 2011.

Inspired by the Trofeo GranTurismo MC and the race-winning GT4 motorsport programs, the Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale will have more power, less weight, razor-sharp handling and a 301km/h top speed.

Responding to Maserati customer demands for a GranTurismo capable of balancing their road-driving needs with their race-driving desires, it incorporates the handling and aerodynamic lessons from all three of Maserati’s current racing programs.

With 330kW (450 horsepower), it has more power (7kW, 10hp) from the 4.7-litre V8 engine than the GranTurismo S, while its 510Nm of torque is a further 20Nm improvement.

This helps to slash the 0-100km/h sprint time, which the Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale covers in just 4.6 seconds, and stretches the top speed to 301km/h.

Its race-bred heritage is highlighted by a 110kg weight reduction from the GranTurismo S, down to 1770kg. It mirrors the advantages Maserati has in racing by retaining the optimal 48.5 : 51.5 weight distribution to ensure handling balance and even tyre wear.

It uses advanced electronics to slash gear-shift times from the upgraded MC Race Shift electroactuated transaxle gearbox to just 60 milliseconds.

It is also the first Maserati in history to have a dedicated Race mode to add to its upgraded Auto and Sport modes in a simplified dash layout. It produces more aerodynamic down force without producing more aerodynamic drag, it produces more power without using more fuel and it is more agile without sacrificing the GranTurismo S’s highly praised ride quality.

With the removal of the rear seats, it is the first two-seat Maserati since the MC12 and has also benefited from new Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes, custom-developed Pirelli tyres, a unique suspension layout and carbon-fibre race seats.

In this configuration, the GranTurismo MC Stradale will be on sale in all major markets, with the exceptions of the USA, Canada and Korea.

The Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale, which premiered at Paris Motor Show, made its on-track debut at the Mugello Circuit in October 2010. Johnny Herbert, one of the most famous and successful drivers in the Motorsport's history and winner in Formula One, Le Mans and Sebring, was at the wheel of the fastest, lightest, most powerful car in the Maserati range. The GranTurismo MC Trofeo and GT4 accompanied the GranTurismo MC Stradale in this debut on the track.
