2007 - Celebrating the 60th anniversary of the founding of O.S.C.A.

"Hi Maseratisti,

This year, 2007, marks the 60th anniversary of the founding of O.S.C.A. - Officine Specializzate Costruzioni Automobili F.lli Maserati. The company that the brothers Bindo, Ernesto and Ettore created at San Lazzaro di Savena on the outskirts of Bologna in 1947, following their departure from the Maserati factory in Modena. Their aim was to continue their love of designing and building racing cars, that had begun back in 1914 when their brother Alfieri started Officine Alfieri Maserati.

Shortly after the end of World War Two, at a time when Italy was both financially and industrially drained, and against all the odds, the Maserati brothers succeeded with their new venture. Over the next 15 years, they achieved great successes in motor sport the world over, winning races, including the 1954 12 Hours of Sebring, breaking world speed records, and producing both GT cars and race winning boat engines.

From September 14th, the Museo Del Patrimonio Industriale (Museum of Industrial Heritage) in Bologna will celebrate this anniversary with an exhibition displaying five historically important OSCA racing cars, including the glorious OSCA 1500 TN of Dan Hedborg, along with a selection of wall panels containing related information and photographs. A short film about O.S.C.A. will also be screened during the exhibition.

The 5 OSCAs will be on display from the 14th to the 30th of September 2007. The OSCA 1500 TN of Dan Hedborg, never previously exhibited in Italy, will remain on display until April 2008.

If you find yourself in Italy during this time, you really should find time to visit the museum, entrance is FREE!

From Marc in the USA

"Dear Enrico,

I have just returned from the first W.K. Vanderbilt Concours d’Elegance in Newport, Rhode Island, USA. The setting was superb and Maserati was well represented with a 1938 6CM, 2 Tipo 60/61 Birdcages, one of them the Gurney-Moss Nurburgring winner, and my 1969 Ghibli SS.

Coincidentally to your recent page, I also enclose picture of a delightful 1958 OSCA S187, belonging to Gary Ford. It was the winner of index of performance at Le Mans in 1959.

Many thanks for your site.

Best regards,

Marc."
