"Ciao Enrico

come stai, tutto bene?! Ti mando un pò di foto del concorso di Villa D'Este 2008!

....la Maserati 3500 GT era del famoso corridore Gino Bartali, il rivale di Fausto Coppi.

Un salutone, a presto!

Davide."

"Hi Enrico,

How are you? Everything okay? I am sending you a few photos from the concours at Villa D'Este 2008!

....the Maserati 3500 GT belonged to the famous cyclist Gino Bartali, the rival of Fausto Coppi.

Greetings and see you soon!

Davide."

HISTORY NOTE FROM WIKIPEDIA:

Gino Bartali and Fausto Coppi were great Italian professional road racing cyclists.

Bartali's rivalry with Coppi is said to have divided Italy. Bartali, conservative and deeply religious, was venerated in the rural, agrarian south, whilst Coppi, more worldly, secular, and innovative in his ideas of diet and training, was the hero of the urban, industrial north.

Nevertheless, Bartali was instrumental in getting Coppi a contract in his team at the end of the 1939 season, and, after an early crash had ruined Bartali's chances, Bartali also helped Coppi win the 1940 Giro d'Italia. A famous photo shows them sharing a drink while in competition, and their supposed rivalry was the subject of intense coverage and resulted in many epic races.

In 2004, during Maserati's 90th Anniversary Meeting, Maserati decorated 90 cars, Coupes and Spyders, to commemorate an important international event for each of the 90 years. The Maserati representing 1952 was decorated with the famous image of the great rivals sharing a drink during a race.
