BRITISH SNOWBOARDER JAMIE BARROW BREAKS GUINNESS WORLD RECORD
FOR FASTEST SPEED ON A SNOWBOARD TOWED BY A VEHICLE

British snowboard sensation Jamie Barrow breaks Guinness World Record for fastest speed on a snowboard towed by a vehicle.

Record breaking feat took place on the frozen lake of St Moritz in Switzerland, with Barrow and the Maserati Levante SUV hitting a maximum speed of 151.57 km/h.

St Moritz, 19th February 2018 - Britain's fastest snowboarder Jamie Barrow has broken his own Guinness World Record, clocking a new fastest speed on a snowboard while being towed by a vehicle on the frozen lake of St Moritz.

Barrow previously broke the same record in February 2016, when he was clocked at a speed of 99.87 km/h while being towed behind a car across the same frozen lake in St Moritz. Despite breaking the record in 2016, Barrow was always confident that an even greater speed was possible, due to the track in 2016 being slightly shorter than originally planned and the soft snow not allowing the grip needed.

This time he returned to the lake with a powerful Maserati Levante SUV, a much faster car than the one used in his last record attempt, fitted with Pirelli Scorpion Winter tyres. The special studded tyres have 474 studs per tyre and are 4 mm long to allow the best grip possible on the frozen lake.

Maserati’s luxury SUV offers an array of high-tech features including the Q4 Intelligent All-Wheel Drive System and the recently developed EPS producing a highly capable SUV. With its variable torque control, the Q4 Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system is always active and responds immediately to any variation in the driving conditions, providing premium performance for Barrow’s Guinness World Record.

In conjunction with the Q4 Intelligent All-Wheel Drive System, EPS improves the car’s handling and comfort, better supports the driving modes, and enables the newly-introduced active ADAS functions. The advanced technology allowed the Levante to perform on the frozen lake surface, without losing the razor-sharp steering feel expected of any Maserati.

With the record attempt taking place on a frozen lake, safety and preparation were a major factor when planning the project. The track was closed, fenced off and piste-bashers groomed the snow especially for the Guinness World Record attempt.

Strict criteria had to be met for the record to meet Guinness World Record guidelines. These included completing a timed run in both directions with specialist recording equipment, set at 100m by a Guinness World Records official. With 400m needed either side so that the Maserati Levante could accelerate and slow down safely on the snow, a total run of approximately 900m was prepared.

On the morning of Monday 19th February, the very first out run was recorded at 151.57 km/h. Due to the Guinness World Record stipulations, a return run back was recorded at 147.72 km/h. The two runs were then averaged to give the final Guinness World Record speed of 149.65 km/h.

About his newly set Guinness World Record, Jamie said, “I’m absolutely delighted to have broken my own record. I always knew there was much more speed possible with the right conditions and crucially the right car to tow me. The Maserati Levante made light work of the icy and snowy conditions, giving us the grip to really hit top speed. The adrenalin rush is always amazing when you hit those speeds – I’m just happy I was able to hold my nerve, keep the snowboard in line and ultimately smash the World Record.”

Jacob Nyborg, Head of Marketing for Maserati SpA commented, ‘What a fantastic effort from Jamie to break the World Record. As soon as we spoke to him about this attempt, we knew it was something we had to be involved with. The new Maserati Levante SUV has performance at its heart, so this was the perfect way to show its off-road capabilities, while helping Jamie break a new Guinness World Record. We are excited to see what the future holds for Jamie and hope we can help him reach even greater speeds in the future – what an incredible athlete.”

The Maserati Levante was supplied by Kessel Auto, the official Maserati dealer in Lugano, with a showroom in Saint Moritz.

            Return run – 147.72 km/h
            Average of 2 runs for record – 149.65 km/h

About Jamie Barrow

Jamie Barrow, aged 25, is officially Britain’s fastest snowboarder. Forced to retire from the British Snowboard Cross team in 2013 with a serious back injury, Jamie has been pushing the limits of speed snowboarding ever since.

Jamie is also famous for his viral internet videos including being towed by an aircraft across a runway and speeding across St Moritz’s frozen lake using a jet-powered backpack.

Dear Enrico,

Maserati 2018 model were released in Japan on 16th October 2017.

The MY18 models launch event was held at a hanger in Narita international Airport.

Unfortunately I could not join the event (actually I had not been invited...), it looks very nice event where held at the airport hanger which is not opend to the public.

The 28 units of MY18 Maseratis, GranTurismo and GranCabrio, were unloaded from the chartered Boeing 747 cargo aircraft, which was painted as Maserati branded and they were displayed together in the hanger for the celebration event.

Best Regards,

Hisato."

A special chartered plane with Maserati logo arrived from Italy with 28 units of the GranTurismo and GranCabrio MY18.

Modena,16 October 2017 - Maserati Japan Ltd. has launched the MY18 Maserati GranTurismo and GranCabrio. A hangar at Narita International Airport was chosen as the venue for the unveiling of the new MY18 models. A chartered cargo aircraft with special Maserati livery flew in from Milan, Italy and unloaded 28 units of the new GranTurismo and GranCabrio, and both models were unveiled to VIP guests soon after their arrival.

The venue, which was not open to the public, hosted a special evening with the Maserati-branded B747 and the MY18 Maserati GranTurismo and GranCabrio, merging luxury with an extraordinary experience.

Attending this one-of-a-kind celebration were the owners of the freshly delivered MY18 Maserati models, along with Maserati enthusiasts and other VIP guests, members of the press and auto journalists.

The GranTurismo and GranCabrio range has been streamlined for 2018 and two distinct versions will be offered – Sport and MC. The 4.2-litre GranTurismo and GranCabrio has been discontinued, while the Sport and MC share the same powertrain V8 of 4.7-liter and interior personalization packages.

The MC – for Maserati Corse – takes on an important ambassadorial role for the entire Maserati range, representing the company’s long and illustrious racing heritage. Replacing the previous MC Stradale, it offers a wide array of tried and tested features from other Maserati models.

The naturally aspirated V8 engine is hand-assembled by Ferrari in Maranello and weighs only 175kg. This 4.7-liter unit features a wet sump and – exclusive to Maserati – a cross-plane crankshaft. This provides unrivalled throttle response, free-revving characteristics and the thrilling Maserati signature sound.

When it came to the MY18 restyle, the timeless Pininfarina design was treated with the utmost respect by the Maserati Design Centre. The results include even better aerodynamics and compliance with the latest pedestrian safety regulations.

The new front and rear bumper design for the MY18 GranTurismo and GranCabrio elegantly refines the visual impact of the striking original styling. Additionally, the headlights for each model have been slightly restyled for 2018, and a new rear-view camera is now included. The Sport and MC share the same basic features, although each has unique inserts to accentuate its distinctive character.

MONTANTE CICLI AT EICMA 2017

Vintage and Sport Proposals in Collaboration with Maserati.

From the partnership between Montante Cicli and Maserati, historic Made in Italy companies, six new bicycle models inspired by the two souls of Maserati, Sport and Heritage.

On the occasion of the appointment at EICMA 2017, Montante Cicli proposes TWO NEW COLLECTIONS OF VINTAGE AND SPORTS MODELS, the fruit of the renewed and prestigious collaboration with Maserati.

The new and elegant Montante bikes, thanks to the partnership with the House of the Trident, translate into two wheels all the power, speed, and the punch in the cubic capacity of Maserati engines, reviving the style and care of the details of Made in Italy.

Models that focus even more on the elegance and quality of the materials, TWO UNIQUE AND EXCLUSIVE COLLECTIONS: the first, vintage but at the same modern and always recognizable; the second composed of models sporty and contemporary, very technical and performing.

In 2011, Montante and Maserati launch their first partnership and realize a bicycle dedicated to all the enthusiasts of the House of the Trident: the single-speed Montante for the Maserati 8CTF.

Produced in just 200 numbered examples - to remember the total number of laps run by Wilbur Shaw, winner of the legendary Indianapolis 500 Miles in 1939 and 1940 - the bicycle represents in a two-wheeled versions all the styles of the historic single-seater Maserati 8CTF.

2017: The two companies renew their collaboration with a new project, to celebrate Maserati's most iconic cars.

The first four selected cars, celebrating their anniversaries in 2017, are the 250S (1957), the 450S (1957), the 3500 GT (1957) and finally the Ghibli (1967).

For each car, Montante Cicli and Maserati propose a bicycle characterized by references to the inspirational car and the years to which it belongs.

Once again, Montante Cicli is able to translate the sportiness into vintage bikes, the elegance and style of Maserati's most famous models, embodying the common vocation for Italian excellence and the refinement of details.

The bikes of the new Montante Maserati Collection are all offered in limited series of 100 specimens numbered by model, each featured by a metal plate that reproduces the referred model and its year of production.

MASERATI 3500 GT (1957)

MASERATI 3500 GT (1957)

The 3500 GT was the first Maserati built on a large scale. Giulio Alfieri, the chief designer at the House of the Trident, developed two prototypes presented for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show in 1957.

The celebratory bicycle inspired by the 3500 GT has a steel frame and fork in a glossy white colour, in addition to the renowned version called "White Lady", and is characterized and by English style handlebars, recalling the sports and travel bikes of the period.

MASERATI 250S (1957)

LA MASERATI 250S by Montants Cicli

MASERATI 250S (1957)

Born as an evolution of the 1954 Sport version, the 250s was born in 1957 with a radically different project, which aimed to maintain the agility of a two litre spors car, but at the same time had more power to face top rival competitors.

The two-wheel version proposed by Montante is in a fire red colour; the Seville type handlebars brings us back to the great competitions of those years.

MASERATI 450S (1957)

MASERATI 450S (1957)

The Maserati from which Montante takes its inspiration is in this case the 450S race car of 1957. The coupé with soft and elongated lines, participated in the 1957 24 hours of Le Mans, but he had no luck in the race. Driven by the team of drivers Moss and Schell, lasted only 4 laps and was forced to retire with a transmission problem. It was later subjected to a revision by Fantuzzi, but did not come out again. The vintage bikes that recalls it is in steel and even here in the red finish, and accompanied with black leather. A more aggressive racing model handlebar accentuates all its sporty "fighting spirit".

MASERATI GHIBLI (1967)

LA MASERATI GHIBLI by Montants Cicli

MASERATI GHIBLI (1967)

The Maserati Ghibli was presented for the first time at the Salone di Torino in 1966, but production started in 1967. Its name, as was the custom for Maserati at that time, recalled the dry Libyan Scirocco. As fast as the wind: its engine could exceed 260km/h. Equipped with 5-speed traqnsmission, but on request also available with automatic transmission. In a glossy black colour and with deep red leather, and equipped with a characteristic bent Condorino handlebars, typical of the 1960s, the celebratory version by Montante Cycles once again include all the Trident styles, including the front panel in shinny brass engraved and enamelled with the Maserati logo.

MODENA SPORT

MODENA SPORT

The glossy black aluminum frame encounters the Maserati red and the knobs saddle covered in genuine leather. They capture the details of the Trident reported on the top tube, on the steering tube, and embroidered on the sport seat.

Sports items, such as the aluminum frame, are coupled to more comfortable components, such as the mono shock absorbing fork. A versatile bike, but of great class.

MODENA

Exciting news from Enrico in the UK

CON LA MASERATI NEL CUORE by ERMANNO COZZA

I have just been informed by Philippe in Belgium of the forthcoming publication of this exciting new book by Sig. Ermanno Cozza, a man who has spent a lifetime with Maserati, and I am sure has many interesting stories to tell of his time at the Casa del Tridente.

Published by Giorgio Nada Editore it should be available soon. Unfortunately for some it is only available with text in Italian, but I'm sure the pressure for an English translation will be so strong as to ensure that an English version will ensue !

We should seriously think about emailing Giorgio Nada Editore demanding an English version !

In the early days when I was putting together this site, I often contacted Sig Cozza, via fax and telephone, and not only did he offer invaluable help but he often added an intersting story of his time at Maserati and the cars and drivers he came across during this time. I always regretted being unable to jot down his stories. I am sure this book will be full of them, and that is why I am so looking forward to its publication. I gather that no firm release date has been fixed, but I'm sure we won't have to wait too long !

Con la Maserati nel Cuore

Published by Giorgio Nada Editore 2017

- Ermanno Cozza.

Text in Italian

“Over 66 years have passed since I walked through the gates of Officine Alfieri Maserati (the Alfieri Maserati Workshops). It was in 1951, and in all that time I can truly say that Maserati took hold of my heart. The factory, the men and the cars have indelibly marked moments in my life. Today, many people consider me to be the living memory of Maserati and, in that way, take me back to those earlier days. In this book, I have tried to convey the excitement of living the Maserati legend so that, step by step, I cover the most important moments of my long and extraordinary experience: the excitement of participation, the joy and pain, the cars and the defeats, the ambitions and the professional difficulties. While I have always enjoyed good health, over the years I have been infected with the "Tridentite" virus of which I believe I have been a carrier all this time – and it is a virus of which I never want to be cured.” - Ermanno Cozza.

Over 500 pages Ermanno Cozza, the authentic historic memory of Maserati, passionately tells a story packed with behind the scenes truths – right up to today – that have never previously been published. He covers half a century of the company’s life, which he lived in close contact with the great motor racing champions, ingenious technicians, designers and, naturally, company life as well, of course, as the unforgettable cars. A carefully chosen collection of photographs and other illustrations complete this invaluable book.

Printed in hardback portrait format hardback, with dust jacket, (14.0 cm x 22.0 cm), the book contains 500 pages with hunreds of photos in colour and b/w.

This book is priced at around 30 EURO.

MASERATI AT THE AUTO E MOTO D'EPOCA SHOW IN PADUA

Three iconic Maserati cars on show at the Brand's stand:

the A6 1500, the 5000GT Allemano and the A6G-54 Allemano.

Alongside them, the Brand's present is represented by the new Maserati Ghibli GranSport MY18.

Modena, 26 October 2017 – Maserati is exhibiting at the Auto e Moto d’Epoca Show in Padua, Europe’s biggest classic and contemporary car and motorbike fair. The event, in its 34th edition this year, opens today and will welcome visitors until Sunday 29 October.

Maserati Classiche has chosen three cars for display on its stand in hall number 1 at the Show:

A6 1500. The A6 1500 was Maserati's first road model. The project originated in Modena in 1941 and the car's development continued even during the dark years of the Second World War, being officially launched at the Geneva International Motor Show in 1947. The car, featuring not only Pininfarina's design but also the major innovation of a round-section tubular chassis, was an immediate success with the specialist press and the public, encouraging Maserati to put it into production at once. However, the line was revised and the hidden headlamps were replaced with a conventional design with chromed surround. The “Extra Lusso” version was subsequently equipped with a more modern grille and larger side windows.

5000 GT Allemano. The 5000 GT was presented at the 1959 Turin Motor Show and was the undisputed queen of the event. The car, with coachwork by Touring, was nicknamed the "Shah of Persia"; only 3 of this variant were ever built, but they were sufficient to further reinforce Maserati's revered status on the world market. The following year, 1960, the 5000GT was presented at the Geneva Show with some revisions to its engine, which was made more "docile" for everyday use, while retaining impressive performances. As the partnership with Touring drew to an end, other illustrious coachbuilders joined the project: Pininfarina, Monterosa, Ghia, Frua, and Allemano, who eventually monopolised output, supplying Maserati with most of the bodies.

A6G-54 Allemano. The A6G-54 was another high-performance car with medium-sized engine used both in road version and in a more extreme variant destined for the racing scene. Top coachbuilders including Zagato, Frua and Allemano were commissioned to build bodies for the car. Zagato delivered coachwork of aggressive, functional design, hand-crafted with the details different on every unit supplied. Frua chose to adopt a high degree of personalisation of the two models (Coupé and Spyder), expressed in daring colour combinations. Allemano created elegant, streamlined cars, built to the meticulous standards expected of the most luxurious GT models.

As well as the three exclusive classic Maserati cars, the Brand is exhibiting a new Ghibli GranSport MY18, inspired by its great racing tradition. The new GranSport trim is designed to satisfy the demands of customers in search of a sportier personality in the high-end sedan segment. As well as the Full LED adaptive headlights, the GranSport's exterior is also characterised by Black Piano inserts on the front bumper (which also carries the “GranSport” name), side skirts coloured to match the car, blue inserts on both the Trident and the Saetta logos, Red brake callipers and 20" Urano diamond wheels.

For lovers of a sporty driving style, the cockpit has all-leather racing seats with 12-way electric adjustment and sport steering wheel. The GranSport's standard outfit is completed by the gearshift paddles on the steering wheel and the steel sport pedals. As an additional customisation, to underline the Ghibli's racing pedigree even more strongly, customers can opt for an optional carbon fibre exterior pack comprising rear-view mirrors, B- and C-pillar claddings and door handles for the basic trim, with the front and rear splitters added for the GranSport trim.

The new Ghibli MY18 is also available in the GranLusso trim, where the sophistication of the car's equipment is reflected in the use of exclusive materials and special contents, in the tradition of the finest Italian craftsmanship.

Representing the prestigious association with Bulgari, the Trident stand displays the two new Octo Maserati watch models, officially presented at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. The new Octo Maserati GranLusso and GranSport by Bulgari are exclusive watches specifically intended for owners of the Brand's cars; the spectacular dial (with retrograde minutes and jumping hours) resembles the rpm-counter of a Maserati, while the stitched leather strap recalls the upholstery.

A model of the new limited-edition collection of bicycles designed by Montante Cicli exclusively for Maserati will also be on show for visitors to admire. The project celebrates some of the most famous of all Maserati classic cars, with the creation of 4 models in vintage bike style, inspired by the 250s (1957), the 450s (1957), the 3500GT (1957) and, finally, the Maserati Ghibli (1967), the inspiration for the model on show.

Maserati Store is also present with a wealth of products, especially the “Maserati Classiche” line, inspired by the heritage car world, with the Brand's most iconic historic cars featuring in the patterns and patches which decorate the garments.

The “Maserati Classiche” department, which has curated the Brand’s participation at the Show, is an in-house entity entirely dedicated to classic Maserati cars and the promotion of the company’s immense historic heritage.

Maserati also recently introduced major product upgrades to all its models for the recent Frankfurt Motor Show, making the new MY18 range even more complete and sophisticated.

All Maserati models have been significantly upgraded with the addition of new, high-tech contents. For the first time, Maserati introduces Electric Power Steering (EPS), which enables the active functions of the new Advanced Driving Assistance Systems (ADAS). EPS has replaced hydraulic power steering on the Ghibli, Quattroporte and Levante, to provide a higher level of handling and comfort while retaining all the steering precision and "feel" typical of every Maserati.

The GranTurismo and GranCabrio MY18 models have also undergone major external restyling for even more superlative aerodynamics, while the interior upgrade includes the introduction of a new infotainment system.
