A HIGH MILEAGE MASERATI QUATTROPORTE SEICILINDRI

"Dear Enrico,

During my visit to Japan last time, I saw a 2.8-litre Quattroporte seicilindri with 217,021 km miles on the clock !!!

My friend ABITTERIA bought this Quattroporte to remove some parts from the car.

Actually the condition of the car is very good, not like a car with a mileage of over 200,000 km.

So he serviced the car, and it now works as normal. He drove the car for a couple of weeks and now it is for sale.

Attached are pictures of the car. She currently slept in garage couple of weeks and I had no time to bring her out. So the pictures are only in garage.

It is amazing to see over two hundred thousand km on a Quattroporte IV !

Best regards,

Hisato."

MASERATI BITURBO S

"Hello Enrico,

I have a problem on my 1983 carburettor Biturbo S.

Jan's very nice Maserati Biturbo S;

On idle as well as on full throttle there is no problem, but at low rpm, or when I lift off the gas pedal, it starts to choke, backfire and it loses power for a moment.

I have changed the distributor rotor arm and spark plugs with no effect. Could you please give me some advice ?

Could it be a fuse problem ?

Thank you,

Jan."

P.S. I send you also a video of my problem, shot when stationary - www.youtube.com.

HELPFUL REPLY FROM JAN:

"Hello Enrico,

Some time ago I posted the above problem with my Maserati Biturbo. It was choking in low rpm.

The problem was that two wires in the distributor connected to the rpm sensor, had somehow bent and were partly broken.

So maybe this will help somebody in his search of a similar problem.

Thanks,

Jan from Prague."

THE GIRO D’ITALIA JOINS IN THE MASERATI CENTENARY CELEBRATIONS

The zero kilometre mark at the historic Modena headquarters to celebrate one hundred years of the House of the Trident.

The Giro d’Italia celebrates the Maserati Centenary

Tuesday, 20 May 2014 - The Giro d’Italia is joining Maserati to celebrate the Trident marque’s centenary year. This afternoon the festive and colourful convoy of the tour started at the front entrance of the Maserati factory, in via Divisione Acqui, Modena, where the zero kilometre mark of the tenth stage of the competition was located.

The zero kilometre mark denotes the beginning of each of the various stages that make up the race, and on some occasions it is given symbolic value. Positioning the starting point outside the main entrance of the Maserati site, the world renowned race sought to pay tribute to the men and women who, in 100 years of history, have made the Trident an international icon – tribute for which Maserati would like to thank the organisers of one of the most beautiful stage races in the world.

Crowds of Maserati employees lined the front of the House of the Trident to see the historic moment the peloton of cyclists from the 97th Giro d’Italia set off, led by Cadel Evans in the maglia rosa.

MODENA MOTOR GALLERY - 2014

"Ciao Enrico,

Ti spedisco alcune foto.

Daniele."

"Hi Enrico,

Last Sunday, 11th May, the important exhibition “Modena Motor Gallery” 2014 edition came to a close with a large number of visitors that far exceeded the expectations of the organizers.

The event, sponsored by the city of Modena, the Chamber of Commerce, Crafts and Agriculture, as well as the Ferrari Museum in Maranello and MEF in Modena, is emerging as one of the most significant international classic motorsport exhibitions.

In addition to the pavilions dedicated to specialist classis car restorers and repairers, the event provided an area dedicated to the most beautiful Italian coupe and spider automobiles ever produced. A stand out display containing some beautiful Maseratis, Ferraris and Lamborghinis in peaceful coexistence.

Beautiful and much admired among the racing cars, were a Maserati 250F V12, a Maserati Tipo 34 6C, a Ferrari 156/85 which was driven by Michele Alboreto, and a Lancia LC1.

Amongst the very interesting stands was that of Pagani. that displayed a Zonda, as well as the brand new and amazing Huayra.

Alongside the pavilions dedicated to automobiles, there were those displayng motorcycles, including a fine collection of Maserati and Moto Villa bikes. The Moto Villa stand was honoured by the presence of its founder and rider Francesco Villa, a six-time Italian Speed Champion.

I have sent you a few photos.

Daniele."

GRAND PRIX HISTORIQUE - MONACO 2014

"Hi Enrico,

As usual in Monaco yesterday there were a lot of English, I imagined for a moment that I was going to cross in the paddock or on the Tribune of the track (V). Too bad.

In Monaco, I also wanted to take a picture of the Ghlbli at auction at Coys, but as I said yesterday on a French forum, I refuse to pay 30 euros just to see a car. Now we need to visit the catalogue: Rats !

www.forum-auto.com/automobiles-mythiques-exception

I expect to see results from the sale of Coys on the internet to see if the Ghibli was sold, and at what price. Maybe you can learn a call at Coys in England ?

So I spent a lovely time in the paddock by some pictures of cars: Maserati solo. I sent you several e-mails and partial programme the race meeting in a separate pdf - CLICK HERE !

I hope you enjoy them, on my side I'll try to make a Picasa album.

Best regards,

Jacques."

MASERATI GRANTURISMO MC STRADALE
AND GRANCABRIO MC CENTENNIAL SPECIAL EDITIONS

New York and Beijing debut for two models honouring Maserati’s first 100 years

The Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale and GranCabrio MC Centennial Editions

Maserati unveiled at the New York and Beijing Auto Shows the GranTurismo MC Stradale and GranCabrio MC Centennial Editions to celebrate the company’s first 100 years and further focus attention on the brand's true sporting spirit.

Both models will feature three special new three-layer colour schemes in addition to the four already available for the MC Stradale. There is a wide choice of wheels too, with four special finishes for the MC and Trophy designs. At the centre of the wheels appears the medal-shaped centenary logo, itself available in two finishes, matt Smoke grey and Charcoal grey, depending on wheel design and colour.

The Centennial Special Edition comes with a wide range of interiors too. Each of the seven exterior finishes is combined with a specific interior finish. The leather upholstered seats boast a particularly aggressive look with a contrasting decorative insert based on the three colours (red, white and blue) of the seat profiles. The motif also extends to the headrests and surrounds the embroidered Trident logo.

The special three-layer paint finishes includes Magma red and Inchiostro blue, two colours that emphasise the sporting nature of the more extreme MC versions of the GranTurismo and GranCabrio. These two colours are a modern interpretation of those of the Maserati shield and also represent the traditional colours of the town of Bologna where the company was founded in 1914. The combination of colours found in the interiors also reflects the three-tone finish of the body and wheels. The black leather of the seats and dashboard is strikingly offset by the red, white and blue of the full-length seat profiles and by stitching in a colour that mimics that of the laser engraved details on the wheels. The same colour combination appears on the leather covered steering wheel. The sporting appearance of the interior is enhanced by carbon fibre inserts on the dashboard, seat surrounds and by a kick plate on which the celebratory centenary logo takes pride of place. The same interior colour scheme is also available for the Pietra grey exterior finish.

The interior colour scheme associated with the three-layer Inchiostro blue body finish contrasts white leather seats and dashboard with Santorini Blue inserts and stitching.

The GranTurismo MC Stradale Maserati Centennial Special Edition is powered by the 460 HP, 4.7 litre V8 that first appeared in the GranTurismo Sport, combined with a robotised, 6-speed MC Race Shift gearbox that guarantees superb performance and a top speed of 303 km/h. Active safety is guaranteed by Brembo carbon ceramic brake discs. In keeping with Maserati philosophy, the new GranTurismo MC Stradale also benefits from the advances made on the previous model in terms of reducing fuel consumption and emissions.

The GranTurismo MC Stradale and GranCabrio MC Centennial Editions will be available alongside the current Maserati range. Sales are due to begin in July 2014.

ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL MONTH FOR
MASERATI VOLUMES IN THE UK AND EUROPE

Monday, 12 May 2014 – After a successful first quarter, Maserati continues to thrive with high sales volumes in the UK and Europe. April proved to be another positive month, particularly for the UK, with 130 units registered, a 665% increase over the same period in 2013.

The significant increase in sales has been seen across all major European markets (Benelux, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom) with a total of 507 units registered in April and an average increase of 333% over the same month in 2013, mostly attributed to the recent introduction of the new Ghibli executive saloon and the marque’s flagship luxury Quattroporte, both now featuring diesel powerplants.

Year to date, these markets have registered a total of 1,837 vehicles, an increase of 420% over the same period in 2013. The UK in particular has recorded 317 registrations year to date, an increase of 205% over last year.

MODENA MOTOR GALLERY 2014

The 2nd Motor Modena Gallery closes with a 20% plus increase in attendance and a "Thumbs Up !" for the Motorshow.

MODENA , May 11 2014 - Modena celebrated the great success of its second edition of the Motor Gallery, Europe's largest trade show for Italian cars and motorcycle, having experienced a boom in its 281 exhibitors spread over 41,000 m² of the ModenaFiere, and an increase of 20% in visitors. Present in an official capacity were Ferrari SpA and Pagani Automobili. two other interestin themes were the two stans "La spider italiana, un sogno a cielo aperto" (*The Italian Spider, a dream in the open air"), and “100 anni di meccanica Maserati” ("100 years of Maserati mechanics") celebrating the centenary of the House of Viale Ciro Menotti.

Today, the show remembered Umberto Panini, great entrepreneur of the figurine cards, car enthusiast to the point of purchasing and saving the Maserati collection from Gepi-De Tomaso that would otherwise have been lost. To his son Matteo, the Banca Popolare dell'Emilia Romagna presented a commemorative plaque.

During the day, the whole city was buzzing with car and motorcycle meetings and events at symbolic places, unique in the world: the museum of coffee machines of the Cagliari family, the museum of the figurines founded by Giuseppe Panini. Nearby at Sant'Agostino where one finds the Galleria Nazionale Estense with works by Velasquez, dozens of Ferrari cars, other groups at the Hombre farm where the Maserati collection is situated. The show's dynamism and the quality of its attractions attracted the interest of the BolognaFiere, in view of their up and coming Motorshow which should reopen its doors in December 2014.
