It is my hope that with the support of enough Ghibli owners joining together we can perhaps encourage Maserati or some other Maserati parts suppliers to re-manufacture those important and essential parts required to keep our Ghiblis on the road and in an original condition.

This database will include all models including the following; Ghibli (1a serie), Ghibli M.Y.94, Ghibli M.Y.94 with K.S. (Kit Sportivo), Ghibli GT, Ghibli Open Cup, Ghibli Cup and Ghibli Primatist. GHIBLI II NEWS FROM AUSTRALIA "Hi Enrico, Hope you are well. Just letting you know that ....#400064 is going well, though accepting plenty of maintenance ! Slowly de-bugging systems but now one of my strut adjusters has failed, so deciding what to do with that. My car seems to confuse Europeans - it is a 1a Serie I think, January '95, compliance plate, no ABS, but has a static discharge ignition 2.8L engine ?? Maybe some of the RHD transition cars were parts-bin specials ? I looked at ...#400193 a few weeks back. It is damaged, off the road and for sale. Not a statutory 'write-off', but it would take some work and unjustifiable $$ to put it back on the road. Unlikely it will go again, methinks. Also, caught up with Michael Pratt and ...#400100 at Bathurst. He was lapping Mount Panorama in a regularity weekend. He also tracks it in Victoria where he lives. Mildly altered for track use - Haltech ECU, GMH LSD, water-meth. injection. Knowledgeable and quietly spoken guy. A few Shamals for sale here, not moving very fast though. I think by your register there were ~16 imported here, and a similar number of Ghibli II. A small and isolated market ! Ciao, Grant."

	My chassis number is ZAM336B0000400107 and my engine code is AM496. The pictures are not clear enough because they were taken at night. The interior is a beige one but my photos show it like it is ivory (again night issues). As you can read from the chassis and engine code it is a 2-litre Right Hand Drive car. Also my Ghibli is a 6-speed manual (Getrag) gearbox. I am currently searching more information from the Cyprus Car Registry how many more Ghiblis were registered in the period 1994-1998. I am sure that they areless than 10, probably around 5-6 only, so we are looking in a very unique and small number. My car I believe is the lowest mileage Ghibli in the world. I am just the second owner and as I happen to know the first owner from the time he bought it, the car was used only on dry roads and always garaged. It was serviced regularly at A. Stephanides Ltd (the official distributors of Maserati until 2005 when they lost the dealership from Mototrend) and has a full service history. The last 5-6 years was used very little but was serviced frequently. The car has only 34,122 km ( yes kilometres ) and I am happy to have one of the handful 2-litre RHD Ghiblis in the world and in such a condition. The engine bay was never washed and needs some cleaning and I really need some advice on how to clean it without damaging electronics.

However, if #ZAM336B00NB360002 was the first left-hand drive Ghibli II produced, and #ZAM336B0000362038 was the last, and all these chassis numbers were produced, which they were not, as there was the odd omission, that would indicate a maximum of 2,037 left-hand drive cars produced. Turning to right-hand drive cars, if #ZAM336B00NB400001 was the first right-hand drive Ghibli II produced, and #ZAM336B0000400236 was the last, and all chassis numbers in between were produced, which they were not, that would indicate a maximum of 236 right-hand drive cars produced. I'm no great mathemetician, but 2,037 plus 236 equals 2,273. That does not correspond with the official figure of 2,216 released by the factory. We have a slight discrepancy !!!

LOCATING THE ENGINE NUMBER I am often asked for the location of the engine number, which I must be honest, isn't too easy to read. You will find the engine number situated at the rear of the engine block close to the gearbox bell housing, on the left-hand side looking from the front of the car.

IDENTIFYING THE YEAR OF MANUFACTURE

Lift your bonnet and you will see a chassis plate on the bonnet slam panel. The longest sequence of digits is the actual VIN/chassis number and on my Ghibli M.Y.94, it reads:

* ZAM 336 B00 * 00 361051 *

The first series of digits ZAM is the new version of the old AM which meant ALFIERI MASERATI. All road vehicles manufactured since 1977 possess a unique Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). The VIN comprises 17 characters: the first 3 denote the World Manufacturers Identifier (WMI) i.e. the company which built the vehicle, and the remaining characters are specific to each vehicle manufactured (make, model, year and place of manufacture etc.).

In Italy the code starts with the letter Z:

WMI

ZAM

Manufacturer

Maserati

The second series of digits denotes model type as follows:

336	Ghibli

The B00 stands for BITURBO and is also common to all types for obvious reasons. The next digit, either N, P or R shows the year of manufacture, in my particular case it's a 0 for 1995:

P	1993
R	1994
0	1995-98

The next letter A or B shows the place of manufacture:

A	Made in Modena
B	Made in Milan

After 1994, Maserati labelled all Ghiblis '00', so there is no way of determining the exact year of manufacture.

The next two numbers identify left or right-hand drive:

36 Left-hand drive

40 Right-hand drive

The final four numbers are simply the car's production number.
