ALEXANDER HAS FOR SALE: His 1977 Maserati Merak SS

"Hi Enrico,

As I have now found a Mistral that I would like to get my hands on, I would like to try to sell my Merak SS.

If you would be so kind and add it to your For Sale section it would be highly appreciated.

Below I have the text for the ad, and I have attached some pictures taken between July and October 2008.

Thank you in advance,

Alexander."

Here some specs for my car:

European specification Maserati Merak SS.

Left-hand drive.

First registered: 1977.

Chassis No: AM122A*1556*.

Mileage: Just under 80,000 Km.

Colour: Metallic red.

Interior: Beige leather.

The car was delivered new in the Emirates in 1977, wearing the original colour of Oro Longchamps (gold metallic), over beige leather seats, black leather dashboard and green carpets. In 1985 the car was exported to Austria, where it was given new paint in the colour of red metallic.

In 2005 the car was imported to Norway by a gentleman that had used quite some time to find the "right" car. It was put in a garage waiting for it to become 30 years old, as this gives a tax reduction in Norway. Sadly, this gentleman died in 2006, and I bought the car in 2007.

After I became in possession of the car, I have given it a new floor in the luggage compartment, changed oil/filter (it was even given 500 kms on another oil just to clean the engine), we have sorted out the electrical problems by giving it all new cabling between alternator, battery and starter.

I have also given the car a new battery and a new starter (from the French SM-club), and given the interiour a respray in its original colour.

My plan was to give it new tyres, new bushings for the front, and sometime in the future a respray in its original gold metallic colour.

In 2008 the car passed through the Norwegian equivalent of the MOT, and was registered in Norway. I have since driven it about 5,000 kms, and the clock now reads approx. 75,000 kms. The longest trip was the first weekend of August, when driving from Oslo, Norway to Copenhagen, Denmark.

In addition to the pictures (most of them taken October 12 before storing it for the winter), please also have a look at a short video clip from the drive to Copenhagen in August; www.youtube.com.

During the 2009 season the Merak SS has been given a new air filter, new oil and oil filter, new spark plugs, new spark plug cables, new rotor arm and distributor cap, both main hydraulic brake accumulator spheres have been replaced, all bushings/tie rods etc. in the suspension have been replaced. Alternator belt has also been replaced.

In addition more “clean up” in the electrical system has been done, as a lot of wiring had been added over the years making a lot of sources of possible faults. New points of ground have also been added to the chassis.

The car has been machine polished twice, giving the paint more shine.

Overall the car is now even tighter than before, starts even more easily and just performs better. During the 2009 season the car has been driven about 5,000 kilometres, including another trip to the Copenhagen Historic Grand Prix, giving the car a total mileage of just below 80,000 kilometres since new.

I have now added a few photos taken by others during the 2009 season.

The sole reason for my considering selling this beautiful car, is that a lovely 1966 Mistral 4000 has come up for sale, and I cannot have two cars like this.

Offered for sale at Norwegian Krone (NOK) 350,000.
