MARK HAS FOR SALE: His 1989 Maserati Karif

"Hi Enrico,

After 25 years of ownership I have decided to sell my Maserati Karif. My ultimate desire is that it will be purchased by a fellow Maserati enthusiast who will continue to care for the car as I have.

So I would be very grateful if you would post the details of the car on your website.

Many thanks,

Mark."

Here are the details

1989 Maserati Karif. Concours condition, owned 25 years, FSH, 33k miles.

The Karif was the ultimate incarnation of the Biturbo range with a 0-60mph time of 4.8 seconds making it faster than both the Shamal and the Ghibli Cup. With a total production run of 221 and only 39 of those in RHD format (13 currently in the UK), the rarity and exclusivity of the Karif is assured.

In my ownership for the past 25 years, this car has lived a pampered life and covered a very modest 33k miles. It comes with a full service history, much with the UK’s leading independent Maserati specialist, Bill McGrath Maserati. McGrath’s also undertook a full engine rebuild in 2003 at 24,798 miles following an oil pump failure. Cambelt replaced in 2015 at 32,885 miles. Fully waxoyled in 1996. A massive history file comprises old MOT’s, invoices, service records, correspondence, etc. Literally, every piece of paper covering the past 25 years.

The provenance of this vehicle is also well documented as this was the ‘go to’ car whenever a UK magazine published an article on the Karif. It has featured in Auto Italia (Issue 90, Feb 2004) 3 pages and 8 photos and Classic and Sports Car (Issue 447, Oct 2010) 5 pages and 7 photos.

As with several Maseratis of the era, before being offered for sale it was fitted with a full Zender body kit by the UK Maserati concessionaires. In my opinion these make the Karif’s subdued lines much more appealing. It is also equipped with the optional and iconic 80’s ‘Fondmetal’ alloys.

With its luxurious interior of burr walnut, Alcantara and leather, the Karif is a comfortable, capable and very fast coupe. With electric seats, windows, A/C climate control and a high end sound system the Karif is a comfortable vehicle in which to undertake any road trip.

This car has also benefited from some sympathetic upgrades that have vastly improved the performance and handling. These are fully documented in the cars history file and in an article I wrote for Trident, the magazine of the Maserati Club. I always felt that the suspension was inadequate to deal with the 285bhp and phenomenal acceleration so I installed (2006) a bespoke, fully adjustable, coil over suspension kit manufactured by Leda and fitted with Eibach springs. The braking performance has also been vastly improved with the fitment (2006) of Willwood Midlite 4-pot callipers. A full stainless steel exhaust by P. D. Gough (1993).

These upgrades have transformed the Karif into the car it should always have been, devastatingly fast, agile and responsive. It is now capable of handling the power (285 bhp) of the sublime 2.8 litres, twin turbo V6. Also, as the suspension is fully adjustable, it can be set for comfortable cruising or firmed up for fast road driving depending on your desires.

In summary, an exceptionally clean, well-maintained, low mileage and sympathetically improved Maserati Karif. A UK supplied car, first registered in February 1989 that has covered just 33k miles. It comes with a full service history, massive history file and magazine articles to substantiate the providence. Perfect as an investment grade vehicle or to drive and enjoy.

This Karif is offered for sale with an MOT certificate, a UK V5 registration document, HPI report, original Maserati wallet and manuals, 2 keys, FSH and a comprehensive history file.

Price: GB £32,950.
