During my recent visit to Italy I had the opportunity of once again visiting Giuseppe and Marcello Candini at their workshop in Modena. Marcello had asked me to buy a couple of Maserati books for him that included a signed copy of "A Short Photographic History of the Work of the Maserati Brothers", a new book by Dott. Alfieri Maserati, the son of Ernesto Maserati.

On the Saturday morning I left early, preferring to cruise drove down to Modena rather than 'bomb down' later, I was after all driving a modest 1.2-litre 16-valve Renault Clio! Just as well for over the radio came news of an expected 20 million cars on the Italian roads that weekend! I travelled via the A4, A22 and A1 autostrade and arrived at the workshop at around eight thirty, just as Giuseppe was opening up.

I have visited the workshop many times now and I've always been lucky enough to find something interesting to see. This visit however was a little bit special. Inside were a magnificent A6G/2000 Coupe by Zagato, two 3500GT Spyders by Vignale, a Mistral Spyder, a 5000GT by Pietro Frua and a one of only two 3500GT Spyders by Touring.
