RE: 3200GT Oxygen and oil sensors:

"Hi Enrico,

Easily the best Maserati website on the web - thank you for all you do for us!!! A few questions for your expert friends, if I may:

My 2000 3200GTA has just come back from service and they reckon it has one oxygen sensor faulty (check engine comes on and off now and then) and the oil sensor (the oil pressure keeps fluctuating).

There can't be that many different lambda sensors being made out there - any ideas on an alternative to main-dealer part on this? (I am happy to do some soldering and change the cable if the plugs are different - so long as the specification of the sensor is the same).

Where is the oil sensor located and what is the procedure for removal/fitment?

Also, does anyone know of a reasonable source for brake discs (front and back)?

Thanks in advance - and happy driving to you all!

Paras."

RE: 3200GT RCY light on the dashboard:

"I have an intetmittent problem with the RCY light on the dashboard.

It comes on occassionally causing the automatic gearbox to change down one gear, raising the revs but keeping the same speed and it will still accelerate if you try. If it's at approx. 60 - 70mph, going fast enough to prevent it changing down then nothing happens and the light goes back off again.

The light generally goes off again after 30 seconds to a minute, and the car drives normally.

It has been into the dealer twice now to be plugged into their diagnostic machine, but they have failed to cure it.

They have changed the brake pedal switch, but that didn't help.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Tony."

RE: 3200GT Cluth wear and poor radio reception:

"Dear Enrico,

I have very recently given in to a mid-life crisis and purchased a second-hand 4200 CambrioCorsa from Meridien Modena in Hampshire. It is immaculate and faultless (so far) with 21,000 miles, one owner and full service history. Apart from a few minor coughs and splutters from the gear-box (a common problem I have been told), the car is excellent and a proven choice.

It is not an every-day car, and hopefully will be kept for a while with a lot of T.L.C. The reason I am e-mailing you (after reading your excellent web site), is the general concerns from other owners with regard to clutch life and gear-box problems. As a general rule - and you do not need to be accurate, how long should a clutch last, if the car is driven moderately and always taken out of gear when stationary. Does use of the "auto" button dimish the life-span?

Incidentally, I have arranged to have an I-pod interface fitted to the radio/ sat-nav system - but why is Radio reception so bad ? I know that you should enjoy the wonderful engine noise, but the radio has very poor FM reception. Is this also known problem ?

Regards,

Martin."

RE: 3200GT Exhaust back box, rear seats, and workshop manuals:

"Hello there,

I was wondering if you could help. I am trying to get hold of the workshop manual for a variety of reasons. Firstly I want to change the back boxes and I understand the fixing bolt is underneath the seat. Also I need to install a set of ahemm..."garage openers" hidden in the front of the car and need to know how to remove the trim (the local ICE installed has refused to take responsibility).

Lastly is it common to have to use plumber's wrench to prise open the oil filler/dipstick? Its very very tight, always has been.

Thanks for your help.

Andrew."

RE: 3200GT seat problem solved and oil pressure query:

"Hi Enrico,

A quick note about the query on the electric seats no longer automatically going back when the seat back lever activated. This happened on my 3200GT, and when in at the Dealer last they 'just reprogrammed' the seat and all was well (done as part of the Steering Sub frame brackets Campaign for nothing). - would thus suggest a very cheap visit to main dealer to put right.

My last 3200GT had it oil pressure constantly at 5 bar, one I have just bought drops to about 4 bar when warm in traffic & stationary, but goes straight up to 5 bar when touching the throttle - is this a problem?

Thanks,

Graham."

I'm afraid there isn't much on the radio removal, I guess it's a standard radio removal procedure using the two removal tools normally provided with the car when new.

Hope this helps,

Enrico."

RE: 3200GT fuel smell and tyres:

"Enrico,

Some times after filling up with petrol I get a smell of petrol in the car and it is strongest in the boot. I have checked the petrol tank and can not find any signs of leaks, all pipe connects are ok and everything seems ok. My question is, before I start pulling the interior apart, there are 2 hoses that come out of the top of the tank on the left hand side and go up under the rear window/shelf. What are these hoses for and where do they go?

Concerning tyres there does not seem to be any discussion on tyres for the 3200 GT. I currently have Pirelli P Zeros these are very good but as I need to replace the rear tyres I would like some options on other makes.

Thanks in advance.

Allen."

Any feedback from owners or purchasers would be greatly appreciated, as would any advice on warranties.

RE: 3200GT questions:

"Enrico,

Thank you for your prompt response to my previous enquiry (your site is spot on!).

A few more questions (2000 3200GT)?

I am told by my MOT station that my ball joints need replacing and that my front tyres are wearing on the inside as a consequence….

Can this be done within the recall work? I.e. save some labour charge?

How much do they cost? i.e. the parts.

I have had a seal (scuttle tray) on order since May with my dealer and it has not arrived is this normal?

Does/should the wiper stalk have a one sweep mode? Also when I go from intermittent to medium I just get full speed wipe unless I play with the stalk how do I remedy (wiring diag appreciated)

I have had some spurious warnings check engine & key code. On tick over when just started. Turning off and re-starting resolves. Should I worry?

I must say every time I turn the key on this car I see pound signs. But I love the drive.

Thanks,

John."

"Hi,

I have a small problem and hope someone out there can help.

My electric seats on both sides work in every direction, the only problem is that when I used to push the seat forward so that I could get a passenger in the back , the seat used to move automatically. Now it doesn't.

Can any one help? Oh, it's a 2001 Maserati 3200GT.

Thanks,

Sibtain."

RE: 3200GT manual gear change 'knock':

"Hello Enrico,

Just bought a 3200GT manual speed at official dealer with full service history ( year 2002, 85000 km). Except from the fact that I find it a magnificent car I am always alert on good mechanical behaviour.

By driving away in first gear the drive train comes up rather suddenly at the end of the clutch engagement with a "knock", so in fact not very smoothly.

Since I have no reference (I have only one 3200GT) I would like to know if this is something to worry about.

best regards,

Huub."

Reply from Enrico:

"Hi Huub,

Unfortunately I have never had the pleasure of driving a 3200 so I can't comment from personal experience. However, I have contacted a Maserati dealer here in the UK and they say that that it is quite normal to experience that 'shunt' in first gear, especially when you are driving in town.

A change in your driving style could reduce the 'shunt' effect but if you are really concerned you should return the car to your dealer for a fuller explanation.

If you have already done so, what were there comments?

Regards,

Enrico."

RE: 3200GT idling difficulies:

"Hi Enrico,

Thought I would try again about my 3200 this time with a bit more information. I mentioned before that my car sometimes stops when dropping down to idle, I have also noticed that the performance is not always as it should be either, if you accelerate hard it feels like it is missing, this is only noticeable by me not any passengers. Could there be a related problem.

Very good site by the way, a bit scary sometimes!!

Thanks Regards,

Rob."

Reply from Andrea:

"There may be a related problem but this is not easy to diagnose from the info supplied. The chances are though, that the idle issue is caused by the fly by wire throttle being out of adjustment and so you will have to get it ‘plugged in’ at a dealer to sort this anyway, so you could get them to check for the loss of performance at the same time.

Hope this helps,

Andrea."
