My grateful thanks to Hisato in Japan for his continuous and invaluable help in maintaining our register. I would also like to thank the individual owners who have very kindly contributed their Ghibli's details. It is my hope that with the support of enough Ghibli owners joining together we can perhaps encourage Maserati or some other Maserati parts suppliers to re-manufacture those important and essential parts required to keep our Ghiblis on the road and in an original condition.

"Hello Enrico, I'm really desperate for help with what seems to be an electrical fault on my Ghilbi II. The car is a 1996 Maserati Ghibli with the 2.8 V6 and auto gearbox. When I purchased the vehicle it seemed to be running fine. The next day I started the vehicle and it only run on one bank of cylinders until after a few minutes then the other bank came to life. The next thing the alternator went which I replaced but the car took ages to start and the starter motor burned out. Not having much luck up to yet!! I had the starter motor reconditioned and replaced it myself with help from your brilliant diagrams. I built the car back together and now it would only run on one bank of cylinders the left hand side looking from the bonnet. After taking some advice from your website I replaced the relays and housings on the bank of five that control the ECUs and fuel pump etc. The vehicle now tries to start firing the odd time but nothing else. Can you help ? Would it be possible to obtain the readings that I should require to check that all the correct information is getting to the ECUs from the different engine sensors and the relays, I have an oscilloscope and multimeter so I should be able to check on the pinouts of the ECU to make sure I am getting the correct voltage and signals. Any help would be much appreciated form yourself or other Maserati enthusiasts. Kind regards, Willie."

	"In January 2008 I bought via Franco Pastorelli (official Maserati garage in Holland ( www.Francoauto.nl ), from the Barbieri Brothers in Piacenza a Maserati Ghibli Open Cup, ( DGM 50726 OM, chassis nr ZAM336B00PB360671* - tipo 336B204P with engine type AM 577 ). The car was originally registered on the 23rd of February 1994. According to the identification plate the original engine was tipo AM 496, which engine has been replaced by the race-tuned version tipo AM 577 on the 14th of September 1995. The car has an official Italian registration certificate. This car is listed in your catalogue as the first car that has been tuned by the Maserati factory in 1995 for the Ghibli Open Cup Races in Europe. It was shown at the Bologna Car Show in 1995. Than 13 other Ghiblis were made to conform to this car's specifications, and all of them raced in 1995 and 1996. As a "prototipo", my car did not participate in those races, and when I bought it last year the odometer only showed 2,400 km ( 1,500 miles, being test kilometres ), thus a new car! The original lead seals are still on the engine parts, because it was not allowed to "soup up" the engine! Since March 2008 I have raced the car over 1,000 km at Zandvoort in Holland, as a member of the Dutch National Racing Team ( DNRT ), in the Scudera Italiano and also as a member of the Historical Automobile Ren Club ( HARC ). Some people say it is a pity that I use the car for racing, because it has historic value, but on the other hand this car was made for racing and I love to drive it on the race tracks. The handling is quite easy, but if you put your foot down before finishing a bend, you might make a 180° turn, caused by the incoming twin turbo that gives the car some 100 HP extra! The total power has been measured at 350 HP (257 Kw) and you can feel them under your foot! Enclosed I'll send you a few photos of the car with the original stickers, so that you can add a photo to the Ghibli list. If anyone would have a photo of the Bologna Car Show of 1995, or a car magazine in which the car was shown, I would be very interested to have a copy. 	My chassis number is ZAM336B0000400107 and my engine code is AM496. The pictures are not clear enough because they were taken at night. The interior is a beige one but my photos show it like it is ivory (again night issues). As you can read from the chassis and engine code it is a 2-litre Right Hand Drive car. Also my Ghibli is a 6-speed manual (Getrag) gearbox. I am currently searching more information from the Cyprus Car Registry how many more Ghiblis were registered in the period 1994-1998. I am sure that they areless than 10, probably around 5-6 only, so we are looking in a very unique and small number. My car I believe is the lowest mileage Ghibli in the world. I am just the second owner and as I happen to know the first owner from the time he bought it, the car was used only on dry roads and always garaged. It was serviced regularly at A. Stephanides Ltd (the official distributors of Maserati until 2005 when they lost the dealership from Mototrend) and has a full service history. The last 5-6 years was used very little but was serviced frequently. The car has only 34,122 km ( yes kilometres ) and I am happy to have one of the handful 2-litre RHD Ghiblis in the world and in such a condition. The engine bay was never washed and needs some cleaning and I really need some advice on how to clean it without damaging electronics.

IDENTIFYING THE YEAR OF MANUFACTURE

Lift your bonnet and you will see a chassis plate on the bonnet slam panel. The longest sequence of digits is the actual VIN/chassis number and on my Ghibli M.Y.94, it reads:

* ZAM 336 B00 * 00 361051 *

The first series of digits ZAM is the new version of the old AM which meant ALFIERI MASERATI. All road vehicles manufactured since 1977 possess a unique Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). The VIN comprises 17 characters: the first 3 denote the World Manufacturers Identifier (WMI) i.e. the company which built the vehicle, and the remaining characters are specific to each vehicle manufactured (make, model, year and place of manufacture etc.).

In Italy the code starts with the letter Z:

The second series of digits denotes model type as follows:

336	Ghibli

The B00 stands for BITURBO and is also common to all types for obvious reasons. The next digit, either N, P or R shows the year of manufacture, in my particular case it's a 0 for 1995:

0	1995-98

The next letter A or B shows the place of manufacture:

A	Made in Modena
B	Made in Milan

After 1994, Maserati labelled all Ghiblis '00', so there is no way of determining the exact year of manufacture.

The next two numbers identify left or right-hand drive:

36 Left-hand drive

40 Right-hand drive

The final four numbers are simply the car's production number.
